High pressure air (or nitrogen) is supplied to the grinding chamber through Laval nozzles.
High velocity gas exiting the nozzles accelerates particles in the fluidized bed resulting in size reduction due to particle-to-particle collisions.
The expanding gas conveys material to the variable speed classifier wheel. The classifier rejects oversize material back to the grinding zone and allows a predetermined particle size to pass through.
The particle size distribution is adjusted by changing the classifier speed, air pressure, airflow or nozzle size and configuration.
