Dear Mr/Madam, I am Zhuzhu, work at Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center in San Diego (CA). Now I have some trouble in my research, I ordered some CaCO3 nanopowder, which shows the size of CaCO3 is about 30-40nm, but the nanopowder completely coagulated. So I want to disperse them. I check the related equipment on internet, and find the fine bead mill in your company can disperse nanoparticles very well. Now I want to know if the fine bead mill can disperse our coagulated CaCO3 nanoparticles, if work, please let me know the order information? If your company has the other better equipment for that, please tell me the related information! Thank you for your help! I look forward to hearing from you soon! Sincerely, zhuzhu

Dear Netzsch Specialist- I have a client interested in media milling conductive carbon (Vulcan xc72)in water for a fuel cell application. Can you give me some idea of the finest grinding media your smaller test mills can use reliably. I am interested in de-agglomeration of the dispersed phase and NOT fragmentation. Thanks for your help again. It has been a year or two since I have connected with you all. THANKS- John Bishop- JB Particle Technology- Rochester, NY 14609 - Tel. 585-288-1998
Hi John, Good to hear from you as always, sorry for the late response, we lost our inside sales person who checks these things. We can run beads as small as 50 microns, we have done similar work for others on carbon as you discuss, I'm going ot have Greg Stevens get in touch with you for further discussion. Dear Netzsch, We've recently bought a netzsch LMZ 25 model mill and there is a question about it . It is indicated in the mill's technical documentation that the operating pressure of the grinding tank must not exceed 3 bar and there should be at least 1 bar pressure difference between sealing liquid and grinding tank . What we want to learn is: Is it going to be safe to operate mill under a higher grinding tank pressure if we use higher gas pressure ( < 9 bar) for sealing liquid? We ask this, because we want to operate the mill and its dispersig tank as a closed loop circulation. However the dispeser and the mill are separated by nearly 6-7 meters apart and the pressure drop for such distance is 3-4 bar for our viscous liquid. So what do you suggest, placing an extra pump at the exit of the mill or operating it at a higher pressure? Because we think the mill's feed pump will be sufficient to overcome pressure drop in the pipes to success circulating but will result increasing pressure in the mill. Sincerely, Emrah EREN Aksa Acrylic Chemical Plant. Yalova/Turkey
Dear Emrah EREN, Thank you for your request. Your request was forwarded to the person who is in charge of. He will get back to you soon with solutions. Please contact info@nft.netzsch.com, if you have further questions. Thank you. NETZSCH

Dear Sir, We have LMK4 used for reserach. We are grinding sulphide and non sulphide ore material. 1) The effective volume to load media is 80% of chamber minus agitator or only the grinding section (Discs section) of the mill chamber? 2)The %solids by weight is directly related to the specific gravity of the material used. Is there a recommedation for %solids by volume instead of weight that can be followed. We are having problems with the material viscosity. At 40% solids, the material backs up in the mill and the chamber pressure increases and shuts down. Thanks for your support.
Hello, Thanks for contacting NETZSCH; sorry it has taken so long to get back regarding your question. I believe the mill you are referring to is supplied by our colleagues at Xstrata. You may want to try to contact them at http://www.isamill.com 1 - The effective grinding volume should be in the manual and includes the volume of the agitator, however filling the machine with water and measuring is not the correct way to determine the grinding volume since the area around the separation system is not to be included. The grinding volume for a bead charge should be 3.3 Liter, therefore an 80% charge would be 0.8*3.3=3.04 Liters of beads. 2 – Normally in grinding we use the solids % by weight. You can calculate the volume solid if you want, but 40% solids should be okay. The process depends on the initial particle size, whether a dispersant is used and how fine you are grinding. If you are experiencing blocking then maybe you need to reduce the bead charge to 70%, increase the flow rate to prevent over grinding, increase rotor speed to increase bead separation, or put in a larger screen. I would say that even 40% volume solids should be okay, but again it depends on the above parameters. Best regards, Harry

I need to deaereat a fine toner powder in as short as time as possible. The material is toner and is first fluidized and transported a short distance to a funnel and PET bottle. The bottle is about 16 in. high and the funnel sits on top of it. The material forms a highly fluidized toner column that is 24 in. high. Partly in the bottle and partly in the funnel. This material has to settle about 10 inches for the bottle to be removed without spilling any form this filling operation. Currently this settles in about 78 –88 sec. We need it to settle in 41 sec. Do you offer any equipment that would help my application. Your quick response is much appreciated as this is a fast track project. Ernie
Hello Ernie, Our De-Aerators are used for pulling bubbles out of liquids, like liquid toner or ink jet ink, printing inks in general, liquid soap, shampoo, waterbased agricutural chemicals. Unfortunately I think all you need is a liquid ring vacuum pump, we used these on our De-Aearator beacsue if you get some ink or whatever in the vacuum pumpo, it is just purged with the cooling water. take a look at http://www.graham-mfg.com/downloads/212.pdf Best regards, Harry

I want understand influence of flow rate while pigment paste manufacturing. when is right time to to measure flow rate when product starts to came out of machine. What is effect if materail come too fast or too slow through machine.
Dear Moreshwar, Flow rate can be measured at any time when mateiral is flowing from the mill A low flow rate will grind the material finer High flow rate will reduce time in mill, therefore not as fine grinding Please visit www.netzsch-grinding.com, go to Login/Register. you should register, then you can download technical articles. Thanks for visiting NETZSCH, Best regards, Harry

My screens from the MiniCer and the LMZ10 have media logged in them and I cannot remove the media. I have tried sonicating for a long period of time, tried boiling in water with not much success. What is a better way or is there a way to get this media out of the screen. The screen is the 35 micron screen since we use both the 50 micron media and the 100 - 200 micron media. Don Gibson
Hi Don, Are these the laser screens or wire mesh screens? Try using a very fine wire brush. Thanks, Harry

Recommend a mill for dispersing fine metallic powder into a vicous vehicle. The viscosity of resulting paste is 100-300 kcps. The metallic powder has particles in the 0.2 to 20 micrometer size and is highly agglomerated. The process should disperse the agglomerated powder into its individual particles without significant distortion of particle shape or cold welding. Thank you

To whom this concerns, Dulux New Zealand manufactures predominantly decorative paint for the New Zealand market. Currently pigments and other powders are dispersed using conventional high-speed dispersers (HSD). The company is considering building a new water based paint plant in the near future and would like to consider new/alternative dispersion technologies. I have been given a project with the aim of researching and trialing new dispersion technology. At this stage I would appreciate more detailed information and recommendations on the dispersion technology offered by Netzsch that would be best suited to our application. We are looking for something that will break up agglomerations but does not have to reduce primary particle size. Our batch sizes range from 1,000L to 40,000 L of finished product. The most powder added to a single batch is approximately 12,000 kg. The final particle size required differs between products but is as small as 10 micron. I would appreciate a quick reply to this email as I have been looking into alternative dispersion options for sometime now and would need to get the ball rolling on this one, if it is to be an option.

We are trying to mill a high solids (48%)aqueous dispersion in our Lab Star (1 liter) mill and it constantly over pressurizes and shuts down within 10-60 seconds of starting the feed. The dispersion has been premilled using a Kady mill and is passed through a 300 micron screen prior to feeding the Lab Star. The Lab Star has a 400 micron screen. Any suggestions?

We have and LMC-20 mill. Under what circumstances would an upgrade to and LMZ mill technology be recommended? Can an LMC disc mill be upgraded to an LMZ mill or is this a completely different system? Thanks for the help!
Dear Mr. Grey, The LMC 20 can be converted to LMZ 10. You would do this if you need a finer or submicron particle size, better temperature control or need to use beads smaller than 0.5 mm. Best regards, Harry

What does the 53Liter* mean for the LMC60, is that usable volume or the total volume of the chamber? I have a O&M manual (37 pages) but doesn't give much detail.
Hello Mr. Welsh, Thanks for contacting NETZSCH. It depends what agitator design is installed. If it has eceentric discs and a media separator with tungsten carbide pins, 57 Liters is the charging volume. If it has Trinex discs and the new large diameter rotor on the media separator the charging volume is 45 Ltiers. Best regards, Harry

What kind of grinding media should I use to grind inorganics like iron oxide in alkyd resin? I have chrome steel and ceramic shot.
Thanks for your question, we normally select beads by asking what particle size are you trying to obtain, then look at the size of the beads. If steel beads are acceptable then this is the best choice, if you want a submicron particle size then 1 mm beads or smaller. Best regards, Harry
